Woven Memory: Sambalpuri Ikat
Sambalpuri Ikat is a traditional weave from Odisha, known for its precise patterning and the skill it takes to create it. Unlike printed fabric, the design is dyed into the yarn itself — on both the warp and weft — before the weaving begins.
The result is a fabric where every motif is planned, aligned, and woven into place. Its patterns are often geometric, with a strong sense of rhythm and balance, yet always carry the softness of something made by hand.
At Abho, we’ve reimagined this textile in simple, easy silhouettes. The idea is to let the weave stand on its own — clean lines, relaxed forms, nothing extra.
Sambalpuri Ikat holds together many layers of time, process, and patience — and in this collection, we’ve chosen to let that quiet detail lead.
